Vyner Campus
The Vyner Campus is the original site of The Observatory School, opening in 2007 to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). At that time, the school catered for 35 pupils in Years 7 to 11, providing a specialist, nurturing environment tailored to individual needs.
Over the years, the school has continued to grow and evolve. A pilot Key Stage 2 provision was introduced at Vyner and has since developed successfully, now based at the Leasowe Campus. Today, the Vyner Campus supports 87 pupils and is a dedicated SEMH provision for Years 8 to 11.
Our work at Vyner is underpinned by three key pillars that run through all aspects of school life:
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We provide a safe, structured, and predictable environment where pupils feel secure, listened to, and supported. Strong relationships between staff and pupils ensure concerns are identified early and support is put in place quickly.
Preparation for Adulthood
We are committed to preparing pupils for life beyond school. In Years 8 and 9, pupils are taught in base classes to provide consistency and strong pastoral support. In Years 10 and 11, specialist teachers deliver a curriculum designed to support successful transitions. Pupils work towards GCSEs, Functional Skills, Entry Level and DoE qualifications, while also developing independence, employability skills, and positive lifestyle habits.
Emotional Regulation
Supporting emotional regulation is central to our SEMH provision. Pupils have access to sensory and social groups, targeted interventions, and structured support that helps them understand their emotions, manage behaviour, and develop coping strategies. This enables pupils to engage positively with learning and relationships.
At the Vyner Campus, our aim is not only academic success but ensuring pupils leave us confident, resilient, and ready for their next steps, equipped with the skills they need for adulthood and life beyond The Observatory School.
