October Round-Up at Vyner Campus! πŸ‚ A fantastic month of learning, achievements and opportunities at The Observatory School

October has been another busy and exciting month at Vyner Campus, with pupils demonstrating fantastic effort, determination and creativity across the curriculum. From sporting successes and practical learning to impressive academic achievements, there has been plenty to celebrate!

Learning Across the Curriculum πŸ“š

Our classrooms have been full of enthusiasm this month, with pupils producing some excellent work across a wide range of subjects.

In English, pupils have been exploring poetry, comparing different writers’ perspectives and developing their reading and analytical skills. Others have been using their imagination to create alternative endings to Pig Heart Boy, producing some thoughtful and creative writing.

In Maths, pupils have been tackling increasingly challenging topics, including Venn diagrams, calculations and problem-solving activities. It has been particularly pleasing to see pupils showing resilience, perseverance and confidence when faced with difficult tasks.

Our Geography pupils have been investigating China’s One Child Policy, exploring tropical storms and learning about coastal management. There has been some excellent independent work, including impressive assessments and the development of geographical vocabulary.

In Science, pupils have been developing their understanding of atomic structure, demonstrating excellent knowledge and engagement.

Developing Life Skills and Independence 🍰

October has also been a fantastic month for practical learning and preparation for adulthood.

Our Food Technology lessons continue to be a huge success, with pupils developing their cooking skills, confidence and independence in the kitchen. From delicious fairy cakes and cheesecakes to impressive practical cookery, we certainly have some talented young chefs at Vyner!

Pupils have also been learning the importance of preparation, organisation and maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

In PSHE and RSE, pupils have explored a range of important topics, including healthy relationships, discrimination, prejudice, emotional awareness and personal responsibilities. Some classes have also been learning about wages and calculating tax, helping pupils develop valuable knowledge for adult life.

Creativity and Technology πŸŽ¨πŸ’»

There has been plenty of creativity across the campus this month!

In Art, pupils have been experimenting with different techniques and developing their artistic skills, producing some fantastic work.

Our Computing lessons have seen pupils working hard to develop their digital skills, including using spreadsheets, formulas and functions. Pupils have also been exploring binary art, combining creativity with technology.

We have been particularly excited to introduce Yousician into our music provision. Pupils have begun trialling the software to develop their guitar skills, with the aim of creating further opportunities for independent music learning.

Another exciting development has been the progress of our kit car project. Pupils and staff have been working hard on the vehicle, with the steering linkage, steering column, driver’s seat padding, horn and rear light now fitted. It is wonderful to see such an ambitious project taking shape!

Sporting Successes and Personal Achievements βš½πŸ†

There has been plenty to celebrate in sport this month.

Our football team achieved two fantastic victories, winning 1–0 and 3–0. The team demonstrated excellent skill, discipline and teamwork, representing Vyner Campus brilliantly.

Pupils have also represented the school at Active Tag, showing enthusiasm, determination and excellent sportsmanship.

A special mention goes to Kieran, who achieved an impressive 115kg deadlift, setting a new Observatory School record! This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through dedication, commitment and consistent hard work.

It has also been wonderful to celebrate our Athletes of the Week and recognise pupils who have shown excellent effort and participation in PE.

Celebrating Every Success ⭐

One of the highlights of October has been seeing the number of pupils recognised for their achievements on our school celebration board.

Whether it has been completing a challenging piece of work, showing improved engagement, using regulation strategies effectively, supporting others or simply persevering when things become difficult, every achievement matters.

We are particularly proud of the pupils who have demonstrated increased confidence, independence and resilience throughout the month.

At Vyner Campus, success looks different for every pupil, and it is important that we recognise and celebrate the individual progress they make each day.

Looking Ahead to November 🍁

As we begin the second half of the autumn term, we look forward to building on the successes of October and continuing to provide exciting learning opportunities for all our pupils, as well as two trips abroad!

A huge well done to all our pupils for their hard work, enthusiasm and achievements, and thank you to our dedicated staff for continuing to provide engaging and meaningful learning experiences.

We are incredibly proud of everything being achieved across Vyner Campus.

Safe. Ready. Respectful.
