Year 11 Careers Trip: A Taste of the Food Industry at Uren Food Group

Our Year 11 pupils enjoyed an exciting and hands-on careers experience on Tuesday, as they spent the day at the Uren Food Group for a work experience opportunity focused on the food industry.

The day gave pupils a real insight into working in a professional kitchen environment, combining practical skills with an understanding of careers in food production.

Pupils began by making their own Japanese milk roll sweet dough, choosing from a variety of fillings such as Nutella, cinnamon, and other creative options. While their dough was proving, they moved on to preparing their own pizzas, selecting from a range of toppings and learning how to build the perfect base.

Once the pizzas were ready, pupils enjoyed sitting down together for lunch, sampling their creations while their sweet dough continued to bake. The final stage of the day saw pupils shaping and baking their milk roll creations, with some fantastic results.

The visit was a brilliant opportunity for pupils to develop independence, follow instructions in a workplace setting, and explore potential career pathways within the food industry.

A huge thank you to Uren Food Group for hosting such an engaging and enjoyable experience — the pupils had a fantastic day and represented the school brilliantly.
