Weekly Update from the Vyner Campus

It has been another good week at Vyner, with pupils showing excellent effort, determination and creativity across the curriculum. From science investigations and enterprise projects to climbing walls and coding lessons, there has been so much to celebrate!

This week we also celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. Pupils spent time learning about his incredible work and watched some of his inspiring documentaries together at lunchtime.

Across the school, pupils have continued to impress staff with their hard work in lessons. In D of E, Jamal has been producing brilliant work on OS maps, confidently using grid references and symbols, whilst Aimee, Reece, Logan and Kai created excellent work whilst learning about desert climates.

In Maths, Harrison pupils continued their work on angles and triangles, with Kieran taking his learning even further by successfully calculating missing angles. Coding lessons were also a huge success this week, with Billy and Liam completing their very first Python programming tasks and producing some fantastic work.

Science lessons were packed with exciting practical activities. Pupils investigated microorganisms by exploring the effectiveness of disinfectant spray, while Harrison pupils took part in a frog dissection lesson which created lots of curiosity and discussion. Alfie and Bonnie were also proudly awarded “Scientists of the Week” for their fantastic enthusiasm and questioning.

Physical activity and outdoor learning continued to play a big part in the week. Pupils represented the school brilliantly during rock climbing sessions at Awesome Walls, showing resilience, teamwork and determination whilst working towards their NICAS awards. Duke of Edinburgh pupils also practised pitching tents as they prepared for their upcoming expedition.

Creativity was on display throughout the week too. Pupils in Spencer produced some beautiful African masks in Art, while others carefully followed instructions to create impressive origami frogs. Enterprise lessons also saw Sinfield pupils begin preparations for their cheesecake business venture, demonstrating teamwork, listening skills and creativity.

PSHE lessons encouraged thoughtful discussions across the school. Pupils explored topics including healthy lifestyles, obesity around the world, body image, social media and the importance of a balanced diet. Staff were incredibly impressed with the maturity and engagement shown during these conversations.

There were many opportunities to celebrate success this week. Well done to all pupils who achieved excellent attendance, including those reaching the “100% Club.” Congratulations also go to the Year 11 pupils who successfully passed their ICT examinations, and to all pupils recognised for their hard work, positive attitudes and fantastic effort.

A special mention also goes to pupils taking part in Lego Therapy, tennis sessions and speaking and listening activities, where communication, patience and confidence were clearly developing.

As always, we are incredibly proud of the pupils at Vyner for being safe, ready and respectful throughout another successful week. Well done everyone!
